Encourage your child to start walking the dog every day. Teach them how important it is to your dog to get some fresh air and exercise each day. Keep this fun and entertaining (and less of a chore) by helping your child can work witht he dog on some basic commands like heel, sit and stay. Training and walking the dog should be done with adult supervision Your child will also learn some responsibility by taking on this job, as well as becoming even better friends with your dog.
Dog Park or Beach Time
Plan some trips to the dog park or the beach. Children and dogs both love parks where they can run and play. Dog parks allow your dog to enjoy playing with other dogs and most areas that have dog parks will also have a park for children, where your child can make new friends at the park. The beach is also a great destination. Find a pet-friendly beach and spend a day in the sun with your dog and child. If your dog loves the water and your child loves the water they can spend plenty of time playing fetch and enjoying all of the fun of the water.
Spend some time teaching your child to work on dog training. Both dog and child will be challenged and have lots of fun. Dogs love to learn and they love to please, so spending some time teaching them new tricks is great. Your child will also feel a sense of success when they can teach their dog a new skill. Skills can be as basic as sit and stay, or entertaining like high fiving and "singing". Some breeds love to run agility (obstacle) courses, even small dogs love this kind of play.
