More Riddles to Share with Your Camping Pals

Here are more riddles that you can use to confound your friends.

Truth and Lies
A knight is headed to a hidden castle, where he has an appointment to vanquish a dragon.  He comes to a fork in the road and isn’t sure which way to go.  Luckily, he meets two brothers standing nearby.  These brothers are famous.  One of them always tells the truth, and the other one only tells lies.  The knight, sadly, doesn’t know which brother is which.
How can he find out which road to take by only asking one of the brothers one question?

The knight should ask one brother “According to your brother, does the road on the right lead to the castle?”  If the answer is yes, he should go the opposite way.  If the answer is no, he should go to the right.

Going Up

Julia lives on the twelfth floor of an apartment building.  Every day, she rides the elevator down and goes out the door.  In the evening when she comes home, she gets into the elevator.  If there is someone else in the elevator with her, she goes straight back to her floor.  If no one else is in the elevator, she rides to the tenth floor and walks up the last two flights.  Why?

Julia is only nine years old and she can only reach the tenth floor button.  If someone else is in the elevator, she asks them to push the button for the twelfth floor.

Grass Fire
Four people are on a grassy island.  A fire burns from one end of the island to the other, but no one is badly hurt.  Why not?

They start a new fire behind them.  When this fire reaches the coast of the island and goes out, the people move onto the burnt area.  The ground under their shoes is hot, but it’s safe from fire since there isn’t any fuel left for the fire to burn.
