Christmas Tree Ornament

You will need:
- scissors
- green construction paper
- glue
- popsicle sticks
- glitter and other decorations
- string

Start by laying the popsicle sticks in a triangle on top of the green paper. Put a loop of string at the top of the triangle. Put a dot of glue on top of the two ends of the string. Then glue the popsicle sticks down over the string, in a triangle. Next cut out a tree shape from the green paper, start by cutting around the edges of the popsicle triangle, and cut out a rectangle at the bottom of the triangle. This gives you a tree shaped ornament.

The next step is to color the rectangle at the bottom brown to represent the trees trunk. Now you can decorate your tree however you want. Be as creative as possible, using glitter markers and any other fun craft supplies you might have.

How to Make a Pine Cone Mobile

Categories // Nature Crafts

Create a Magical Camping Souvenir!

Pine cones are usually abundant near forested campsites.  These fun and easy to make mobiles can decorate camp and then a bedroom or porch back home as a lasting memory of this summers camping trip.

What you need:

  • pine cones - pine cone gathering would be a great excuse for taking a nature walk to gather your pine cones - remember to bring along a bag to carry your pine cone treasures back to camp
  • acorns
  • Several wire clothes hangers - spray painted a color of you choice - this is best done before heading to camp
  • or pine branches or other scrap wood
  • Craft wire - plain or sparkly or metallic
  • String or ribbons
  • Glue stick to attache glitter and other embellishments
  • Spray paint or craft acrylics with cheap brushes - foam brushes work great but you'll need a bunch
  • Glitter and other items to embellish your mobile
  • Clear acrylic spray sealer

How to:

  • Paint and decorate your pine cones and acorns - have fun and let the kids use their imaginations
  • Wrap pine cones with craft wire - either all over to add to your design or just at the tip where you will attach to the ribbon or string
  • Attach the ribbons with the pine cones attached to the clothes hanger (you can put two clothes hangers together to create more dimension) or to the pine branches at varying lengths and grouping
  • you can either tie your ribbons to the hanger or wrap craft wire around the ribbon and attach with the wire
  • wrap acorns with craft wire and attach to the ribbon and then attach these to the hangers or branches.
These make great gifts for grandma and grandpa!
